Palmyra High School teacher under investigation

A Palmyra High School teacher was terminated from his job Friday as the school district and law enforcement officials investigate allegations of inappropriate activity between the teacher and a student, the district's superintendent said.
KHQA will not release the name of the teacher as the investigation is ongoing and the Missouri Highway Patrol has not filed charges.
Palmyra R-1 School District Superintendent Eric Churchwell said authorities notified him of the allegations on Sunday, Jan. 22, and the teacher was immediately placed on paid administrative leave.
"The School District is working cooperatively with law enforcement and Missouri Social Service Children's Division during this investigation," Churchwell said. "The Palmyra R-1 School District takes the safety of our students very serious and will continue to place student safety as our top priority."
Sgt. Brent Bernhardt of the Missouri Highway Patrol in Macon would only say that his agency is investigating allegations involving a Marion County juvenile.
"We can't release any more information until formal charges are filed," he said.
He gave no indication how long the investigation will take to complete.
