A man arrested after an infant was found dead reportedly told police the child was dead a week before he was arrested.

The Oklahoma City Police Department arrested 31-year-old Victor Minjarez on March 7 after an Amber Alert was issued for 7-month-old Jody Minjarez.

Police records show that Minjarez was taken into custody at a home in the 3000 block of Venice Boulevard and the body of the infant was discovered in a trash can on the property.

After his arrest, Minjarez reportedly admitted to taking the boy following a physical fight with the boy's mother on Feb. 19. Minjarez then sought shelter in a vacant house along Venice Boulevard. He reportedly put the boy on a mattress next to a heater and during the night, woke up and found the boy with several blisters on his face.

Later in the night, Minjarez reportedly woke up and found the infant gurgling with bubbles around his mouth and unresponsive. He stated that he then wrapped the boy in a blanket and put him inside a trash bag and into a trash can outside the home. He was arrested a week later.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office released their preliminary report on Jody's death Thursday. The report shows that the infant died from blunt force trauma to the head and that his death was a homicide.

Minjarez faces complaints of first degree murder and desecrating a human corpse. Jody's death is considered the 15th homicide of 2018 in Oklahoma City.
