World famous museum in Fort Madison closing immediately

A museum in Fort Madison, Iowa has announced it will close immediately.

The Sheaffer's Pen Museum will be closing after 7 years.

The museum showcased history and impact the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company had on the Fort Madison area, as well as nationally and internationally.

In a Facebook post, the museum Board of Directors says the primary reason for closing is the lack of enough ongoing financial support.

The museum is a nonprofit organization and without that support it cannot afford to care for the archives and continue their programs.

"Over the past 7 years we have enjoyed an international gathering with attendees from more than 17 countries, several employee picnics, a 100 Year Sheaffer Centennial Celebration (1913-2013) and sponsored a variety of Special Exhibits and Reminisce Nights."
