Two Western Illinois Students were arrested earlier this week on charges related to a sexual assault that occurred at an off-campus apartment, according to police.
Aaron R. Zetterlund, 22, surrendered to police late Tuesday. He's charged with criminal sexual assault and is being held at the McDonough County Jail on $150,000 bond.
WIU officials confirmed that Zetterlund is a senior musical theatre major. He was also a former standout football player at Keokuk High School.
His friend Ethan Deyo, 22, turned himself in to police Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He's accused of recording the incident with his cell phone camera.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred Saturday morning at the Turnberry Village Apartments in Macomb, according to police. There were several witnesses who told investigators that they intervened to stop the assault.
Deyo posted his $500 bond shortly after his arrest. The university also confirmed that Deyo is a senior law enforcement officer at the school.
The investigation is ongoing.
