Waiting for a record setting crest on the Illinois River

The Illinois River isn't expected to crest until later this week.

Sandbagging continues along the Illinois River at Flint Township in Pike County.

Almost half the levee has been sandbagged.

The river isn't expected to crest until Friday.

Organizer Steve Myers says he only expects the river to rise another six inches.

While he is optimistic the levees will hold, he also says they can't take much more pressure.

"The levees get saturated with the high water. We are starting to get some boils and some seeps and is causing a concern. The river isn't supposed to drop very fast after tomorrow or the next day," work organizer Steve Myers said.

Myers says work crews will remain on site, maintaining the levee, even after the river crests.
