      USDA investigates area kennel

The following information is courtesy of the Hannibal Courier-Post:

Regulators are monitoring a Northeast Missouri kennel that has supplied dogs to a former Quincy pet store.

The Hannibal Courier Post reports USDA inspectors found what they termed multiple violations of animal care rules at Mettoville Kennels near Mexico.

The facility, owned by Herman and Bonnie Sue Schindler, has provided several breeds to wholesale brokers, who then sold them to pet stores in several states. At one time, the couple sold dogs at the Il-Mo Puppy Expo in Quincy.

The kennel has been cited for inadequate shelter, filthy conditions, diseased animals and too few workers.
