WIU and union are close to tentative agreement
University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100 confirmed Tuesday that recent negotiations with Western Illinois University yielded positive results.
Both sides met behind closed doors Monday, April 23rd.
The meeting followed several failed attempts dating back to October 2016.
Local 4100 and WIU issued a joint release/statement Tuesday evening.
"Following the April 23 mediation session, Western Illinois University and the University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100 are able to report that the two groups are close to reaching a tentative agreement, subject to finalizing the specific language contained within the new contract. Details will not be disclosed to the public until the final language has been approved by both sides."
A university spokesperson told KHQA earlier this week the university will continue the semester as planned if the union membership were to strike.
There are only three weeks remaining of this current semester.
