The United Way in Quincy kicked off its 2010 campaign season Monday evening. Their goal: to raise $1,125,000.
Dozens of volunteers and board members gathered at Quincy's new United Way building at Broadway and Tenth Street just after 5:00 p.m. The organization's chair, Mike Mahair, told KHQA that within the last two weeks, United Way has raised $98,000. That's just under nine percent of its total goal.
Mahair says it's a great start to the campaign as more of Quincy's younger generations become involved.
"Last year, we had over nine hundred new contributors to the campaign, which was phenomenal," said Mahair. "Some were small contributions, but nine hundred nonetheless. And that's great in a year that had a very difficult economy both locally and nationwide."
The United Way serves organizations such as the Cheerful Home, YMCA and Boy Scouts to name a few.
