Not much is left of the home at 5061 N. Hagener Rd. in Beardstown.

An early morning residential fire in Beardstown claimed the lives of a father and his daughter Sunday.

Beardstown Fire Chief Darin Paul says his department received a call around 3:30 Sunday morning about a home on fire at 5061 N. Hagener Rd., a rural area about five miles outside of Beardstown. Upon arrival, fire crews found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The structure had collapsed on itself.

Inside the home, firefighters found the bodies of Henry "Bud" Krohe, 68, and his daughter, Jeanette Krohe, 29. Jeanette Krohe's four boys were not home at the time of the fire.

A preliminary autopsy report concluded both Henry and Jeanette died of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters contained the fire within an hour, but remained on scene until 8 a.m. investigating the incident. The cause of Sunday's fire remains under investigation.
