Two dead in southeast Iowa fire

Two people died in a fire that ripped through a mobile home Monday in Lee County, Iowa.

The Lee County Medical Examiner Eugenio Torres confirmed that the residents of the home Audie Crawford Ellard, 59, and Karma Kaye Ellard, 52 died in the fire.

Neighbors contacted 911 shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday after seeing smoke in the home at 2044 Second St. in St. Paul.

Torres determined that the cause of death was smoke inhalation in an autopsy, however, lab results are pending to confirm this preliminary conclusion, according to a news release.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Sholl reported that the cause of the fire may never be determined because of the extensive damage done by the fire.
