Two Canton, Illinois men are behind bars after police say they took part in a string of burglaries.
The McDonough County Sheriff says that detectives learned 24-year-old Michael J. Hembree and 36-year-old James T. Butts worked together to burglarize numerous businesses across three counties.
Sheriff Rick VanBrooker reports that Hembree was arrested Tuesday night near Canton on burglary charges stemming from a rural burglary last weekend.
In an earlier press release, Sheriff VanBrooker said that Butts was served with a search warrant on Monday in connection with the burglaries in Good Hope, LaHarpe, Dallas City and Lomax. It was during that time officers say they found multiple stolen items.
Detectives from McDonough, Fulton, Hancock and Peoria counties worked together on the arrests and recovery of stolen property.
Butts is currently lodged in the Peoria County Jail while Hembree is lodged in the McDonough County Jail.
