More Tri-State school districts are looking to consolidate in the coming years.

According to the Avon School website, officials with the Bushnell-Prairie City, Avon and Abingdon school districts have filed a petition with the Regional Office of Education to combine into one school district.

Consolidation has been talked about for a couple of years due to shrinking student numbers and unreliable state funding.

Under the proposal, each district would keep an elementary school.

The junior high school would be located in Abingdon, and the high school would be in Bushnell.

A required public hearing on the proposed consolidation will be held at 7:30 p.m. October 27, at the Avon High School gym.

The measure is expected to be on the ballot for the March 2012 election.
