Highway 79 was closed just south of Hannibal because of a train derailment.
Three cars jumped the tracks just north of Continental Cement.
The incident was reported to MoDOT at 5:16 a.m. Thursday.
The derailment itself did not block the highway, but clean up crews are working to clear the wreckage, so MoDOT closed the road.
The highway will be open to a narrow two lanes on Friday near Continental Cement until appoximately 3 p.m. while Burlington Northern Santa Fe wreckage and salvage crews remove cars near the right of way, according to MoDOT.
