A Palmyra man was hospitalized after a train collided with his truck Friday morning just north of Hannibal near the American Cyanamid plant.

The crash took place about 8:50 a.m. near the train crossing at Route JJ and Route B in Marion County.

Terry Lake, 45, of Palmyra, was taken by helicopter to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. Lake didn't see an oncoming train and tried to cross the tracks, MHP said.

Lake wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The southbound train driven by Jarad Dieker, 28, of Quincy, was taken to Hannibal as the investigation continues.

Marion County 911 said it received a phone call from Burlington Northern Santa Fe reporting the crash.

There's no warning gate where the road intersects with the train tracks.

A BNSF spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for comment.
