Tougher teacher testing requirements in Iowa

New teacher testing requirements for Iowa teachers will go into effect soon.

On Tuesday a legislative panel cleared the last obstacles for the Iowa Department of Education to start implementing the program on January 2nd.

The new teacher preparedness rules require potential candidates to score above the 25th percentile.

That means the teachers have to rank in the top 75 percent nationwide.

Although the law went into effect in July, it was delayed to allow teacher candidate to complete their student teaching assignments in the fall.

But not everybody is happy with the plan.

Some critics say that it should still be delayed because it is unfair to seniors at public and private school who are just about finished with their training.
