Tornado in Hancock County damages home
Severe storms Saturday October 14 produced two confirmed tornadoes according to the National Weather Service. The first was an EF-1 in eastern Scotland County, Missouri. Another tornado struck southeastern Hancock County.
The preliminary survey found damage to a home after a tree was knocked over by the wind just west of Bowen, Illinois. A nearby outbuilding had the roof blown off. A tree was also uprooted near town.
The NWS said the tornado was an EF-0 with winds estimated at 80mph.
Becky Coventon was home when the tornado impacted. She was outside doing yard work when she saw the tornado approaching. She quickly ran inside and got her seven kids to the basement in just 20 seconds. She credited her family's preparedness when it comes to tornadoes which prevented any injuries.
