Too many prom dresses to choose from in Palmyra

The resale gives older girls in the area a chance to sell their used dresses at a discount for the younger girls.

It's a dream come true for young girls to find that perfect dress and even better ... at a discounted price.

That was the case for dozens of teenagers at the First Christian Church in Palmyra this weekend. Its third annual prom dress resale began Friday and ended Saturday afternoon.

Event organizers had hoped to bring in 300 used prom dresses. In the end, 312 dresses ranging anywhere from free to $250 hung on the racks.

The resale gives older girls in the area a chance to sell their used dresses at a discount for the younger girls.

"They're very surprised when they come in the door and see all the dresses and the big selection. So, it's kind of a shock when they come in the door, but then, they're having fun too. We've had some that have been here for hours just trying on dresses and having fun, so it's great," Nancy Goellner, the fundraising chairman said.

Goellner says she's looking for a bigger space for the event in the coming years.

Money raised from the prom dress resale will go toward carpeting in the church's sanctuary and updates to its air conditioning.
