LaGrange Youth Center opens doors to keep youth away from drugs

A Tri-State youth center that tries to keep kids off the streets and out of drugs opened its doors to the public Sunday.

The LaGrange Youth Center opened for the first time almost 30 years ago.

It receives no government funding.

Donations along with an annual open house, such as the one Sunday, keep the center open.

Director Betty Bronestine said many kids wouldn't have anything positive to do in the community without the youth center.

It's important to small communities because the kids really have nothing else to do," she explained. "You can't be telling the kids not to do this and that without giving them something to do.

The LaGrange Youth Center is now planning a pool tournament, volleyball and basketball games and a dance in the near future.
