The Salvation Army helping locals stay cool

      UPDATED: June 8 at 10:41 a.m.

Due to the extreme heat, The Salvation Army has already distributed 100 fans to individuals and families in need.

Requests for fans continue to come in, with names being put on a waiting list should additional fans become available.

Donations of new fans, or funds to purchase them may be sent or taken to The Salvation Army at 732 Hampshire Street in Quincy. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

      ---------------

The Salvation Army has kicked off its summer fan program.

It started with 65 fans and all of them were given out by two this afternoon.

So many, in fact, the Salvation Army had to go out and buy more.

In order to get a fan, you have to bring in a photo ID.

Since there seems to be such a demand for fans, the Salvation Army is now asking for your help.

Summer hasn't even officially begun and we're seeing temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s.

The Salvation Army will take donations of used and new fans, and money to buy more.

Major Dorene Jennings says, "We're basically looking for the window fans, that a person can either put in their room, or put in their window to draw in cool air at night."
