The legend of Chief Illiniwek is over

It's official, the legend of Chief Illiniwek is over. The University of Illinois Senate Executive Committee has approved a resolution that officially ends the use of the school's former mascot.The nonbinding resolution was approved on Wednesday by a group that includes students, teachers and other academic professionals.Recently some former "chiefs" wanted to bring the mascot back in a limited capacity.The Chancellor of the school says that the mascot is part of the school's past and not its future.The school stopped using Chief Illiniwek as it's mascot in 2007 after pressure from the NCAA over concerns the mascot was offensive to some American Indians.
