QUINCY, IL- About 100 Adams County students learned about the importance of staying away from drugs on Friday. For 18 years "Operation Snowflake" has reached out to area kids. The idea is to mix a little fun in with an important message through music, games and peer interaction. The event is part of the Operation Snowball program that helps kids make the choice to live drug free lives. This year's theme was "Got Game? No Drugs, No Shame."The students were encouraged to participate in sports and other activities without using drugs. It's a message that event organizer Pamela Foster says is especially timely in light of recent reports of drug use by athletes like Olympian Michael Phelps and Yankee Alex Rodriguez..Foster says those kinds of stories help to open up a dialouge with students and gives Foster and the members of Operation Snowball a chance to remind the kids that it's OK to be themselves. The students also learned about self image, leadership and making the right choices.
