Staff member assaulted at Iowa State Penitentiary

A staff member was assaulted at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Iowa Department of Corrections, a staff member ordered some inmates to move away from a restricted yard area at around 7:15 a.m.

That's when one of the offenders began arguing with the staff member, which resulted in an assault.

Staff were able to subdue the offender.

The staff member who was assaulted has bruises to his face and head.

He was immediately treated and returned to his assignment after being cleared for return to duty.
