Springfield bishop to speak at QU graduation

The Springfield bishop will deliver the May 13 commencement address at Quincy University.
Most Rev. Thomas John Paprocki will be awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at the university's 149th commencement.
The Vatican recently selected Paprocki to address what the church described as serious doctrinal problems within the leadership group that represents the majority of the country's nuns.
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious represents 83 percent of the nuns in the United States.
The State Journal-Register , reported that the organization's leadership talked of some of the religious moving beyond the church or even beyond Jesus. Paprocki characterized the statement as pretty radical.
The commencement begins at 10:30 a.m. at Pepsi Arena at at 20th and Oak streets.
Tickets are required for the event. The ceremony will also be broadcast in the three-court area of the Health and Fitness Center in the event the arena is full. Tickets are not required for entry into the three-court area.
