Source: Douglas tapped to lead QHS Blue Devils basketball team

Andy Douglas

The Quincy Blue Devils next leader is a familiar face and a former player.

The Quincy School Board is expected to extent a contract to Andy Douglas, sources confirmed with KHQA Thursday morning.

A special school board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday. The board is expected to meet in an executive session to discuss the hiring of the new basketball coach. Superintendent Steven Cobb's assistant, Phyllis Stewart, said that the board will make the official hiring announcement after the executive session.

The district also scheduled a formal press conference with the new coach at 7 p.m. Friday.

Douglas currently works in the school district as a physical education teacher at Washington Elementary School. He also coaches the Liberty High School boy's basketball team.

The Quincy School Board terminated the contract of coach Sean Taylor in March. Taylor spent 11 years with the team.

Chris Duerr will have more on this story as it develops.
