Snow emergency declared in Macomb

The City of Macomb has declared a snow emergency.

The snow emergency is effective at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 and will last through 8 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6.

Residents living on designated snow routes are reminded that parking on snow routes is prohibited during a snow emergency. Vehicles parked on snow routes should be removed immediately. Vehicles are subject to tow, at the ownerâ??s expense.

Accumulating snow has begun to fall in the Macomb area. Forecast amounts for this storm, range from 5 to 8 inches, falling mainly Tuesday night through the overnight hours into Wednesday morning. Forecasts are also calling for blowing snow and temperatures falling to well below zero on Wednesday night. Very low temperatures will render melting agents, such as salt, on roadways ineffective thereby prolonging hazardous driving conditions.

Residents are encouraged to minimize unnecessary travel. If travel is necessary, use extreme caution; allow for greater stopping distances at intersections and slower speeds to maintain safety.
