Sheriff: Dog that bit child euthanized

Blake was bitten on his back in several places

Adams County euthanized a dog the bit a young boy last week, according to the Adams County Sheriff TMs Office.

Blake Andrews, 7, was bitten by the dog while riding his scooter March 20 near the intersection of 5th and Washington streets in Quincy.

The Adams County Sheriff TMs Office quarantined the dog for several days and determined it was current on its rabies shots. Authorities said that this wasn TMt the first incident of aggressive behavior from the dog that was described as a pit mix.

The Sheriff's Office issued the dog's owner, Tina Blackledge, a nuisance violation for an animal at large. She surrendered the dog to authorities Monday and it was euthanized.

Andrews was taken to Blessing Hospital with injuries that included several deep bite wounds.

A passerby, Billy Phelps, managed to get the dog away from the young boy.

Adams County court records show that Blackledge pleaded guilty to a rabies violation ordinance on Dec. 19, 2013. The court assessed more than $250 in fines and court fees.
