As of 4:15 p.m., Illinois Route 96 from Hancock County Road 550 North to County Road 900 North is closed so crews can remove an overturned tractor-trailer.
The driver of the car involved in the crash, Maria A. Stanbary, 32, of Niota, Illinois, and her 10-month-old juvenile passenger were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
The tractor-trailer driver, Bruce A. Zanger, 55, of Quincy, Illinois was not injured.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, Stanbary was traveling southbound on Route 96 followed by the tractor-trailer when she slowed down to make a left-hand turn into a private drive. Zanger, the tractor-trailer driver thought the car was making a right turn and pulled the truck into the left lane in an effort to pass it.
That's when police said Stanbary turned the car directly into the path of the tractor-trailer and was struck on the driver's side.
Police say the impact caused the tractor-trailer to overturn on the roadway.
Both drivers were wearing a seat belt and the juvenile was in an approved child restraint seat.
An investigation is being conducted by the ISP.
