Rushville armed robbery suspect dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

Authorities identified the man who shot himself after a robbery at a Rushville grocery story.

Michael Ashcraft, 37, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Schuyler County Coroner Dennis Lane said.

Investigators said that Ashcraft tried to rob the County Market pharmacy on Clinton Street Thursday morning.

Ashcraft brandished a pistol and robbed the store. Store employees refused to give him prescription drugs.

He left and walked to his parents' nearby home. That's where police said that he shot himself.

He was taken to Culbertson Hospital in Rushville where he was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m.
