Run/walk/ride raises funds for Type 1 diabetes research
One Tri-State event is working to change the future for those living with Type 1 diabetes.
Saturday marks the ninth annual run/walk/ride for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in Quincy.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, regardless of their lifestyle or diet.
While there is currently no cure, Tri-State residents are still fighting for change.
"I don't think there's anything anytime soon, but there's always new ideas out there, and there's hope. I just want people to educate themselves on the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and we really need people to care," said participant Dawn Reckers.
Locally, organizers how to raise $3,000 from Saturday's event.
As a national organization, JDFR has raised more than $2 billion for Type 1 diabetes research.
