'Ride of Silence' promotes awareness of safety for cyclists

Cyclists line up to start the ride in 2013

A very important bike ride is taking place Wednesday night in Quincy.

The "Ride of Silence" is a national movement to raise public awareness of cyclist safety while paying tribute to those lost or injured in cycling accidents.

The Quincy Bicycle Club spearheaded the event for Quincy riders for a second year.

Riders will gather at 5:45 p.m. at Madison Park at 24th and Maine Street and the route will take riders down Maine, around Washington Park and back to Madison Park.

Hundreds of groups accross the nation are hosting similar events Wednesday and the ride coincides with National Bicycle Safety Month.

You'll also remember that Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore declared July 18 through August 17
