Remains found in rural Chariton Co. could be missing Laclede woman

Wanda "Jean" Boxley, 82, of Laclede, Mo. has been missing since mid-November.

Chariton County Coroner Larry Breshears told our sister station KTVO that unidentified human remains were found Friday morning in rural Chariton County.

Breshears arrived at the scene just before 11 a.m. and reported that the death is under investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Columbia to help investigators make a positive ID.

The family of Wanda "Jean" Boxley, 82, of Laclede, who has been missing since mid-November, told KTVO's John Garlock Friday afternoon that a hunter found Boxley's car Friday morning far back in a field southeast of Marceline.

The car was stuck in the mud in a field and had caught on fire at some point, leaving it completely charred.

The family says a body, possibly that of Boxley, was found about 60 yards away from the car.

The hunter had not noticed the body, but had taken the car's license number into town, stopped at a convenience store and saw Boxley's "Missing" poster and then called the sheriff's office.

Breshears had no further details about the investigation at this time.
