Quincy's Well House serves community for nearly 20 years

The Well House provides a faith-based program for women transitioning back into the world after serving time in jail.

You might drive by it every day, but do you know what happens in the house at 7th and Broadway in Quincy?

The Well House provides a faith-based program for women transitioning back into the world after serving time in jail.

Bettie Kaufmann started the program 18 years ago as a jail ministry. The program grew and moved to 7th and Broadway 2 years ago.

Kaufmann says one of the reasons she started the program was because it was something unique to Quincy.

"There is no place else that would be for incarcerated women in Quincy, and we hope that we can help them to have different lives as well," Kaufmann said.

"It helps our community that they can be individuals who support it rather than an expense to it," she added.

Currently, the house can accommodate up to seven women in its program.

At a fundraiser this past weekend at the Quincy Country Club, the Well House raised more than $10,000 towards general expenses.
