A plan is now in place to prepare for Quincy's future.

Monday, the City Council unanimously approved what the city calls its "Next" Strategic Plan.

That plan details dozens of recommendations, which include developing more retail in this downtown area and improving streetscapes near downtown hotels.

The city council was supposed to hear the first reading of the Quincy Next Strategic Plan.

Instead, council members agreed to vote on and approve that plan.

Its purpose is to move the city of Quincy forward over a 10 to 15-year span.

Facilitator Maggie Strong says attracting more people into the city is the plan's number one goal.

"Our city as you well know is not immune to challenges but we have amazing assets on which to build. We have committed community leaders and elected officials like yourself and we have the momentum to take this important NEXT step," said Strong.

Chuck Scholz was the former Mayor of Quincy.

"A lot of us have been here for generations and we want opportunities for our grand kids but we want new people to come to Quincy. Its always been a welcoming community," said Scholz.

The passing vote was met with applause in a crowded city council chamber.
