Quincy Park District takes first steps to renaming Riverview Park
The Quincy Park Board took its first step to rename Riverview Park to Ben Bumbry Riverview Park Wednesday.
The name change will be open to public comment for fifty days.
After that time, the board will vote again to make the name change official.
Ben Bumbry was the first African American Quincy Park Board member and city alderman.
He was instrumental in keeping Indian Mounds pool open.
"We generally name our parks after historic figures and former commissioners, and Ben Bumbry certainly was that," Quincy Park Board President Bob Gough said.
The Park Board also voted to replace Riverfront Park Fountain, replace all lights in parks with LEDs, and pay all park district employees a prevailing wage.
