The city of Quincy is now the owner of the Newcomb Hotel.
Mayor Kyle More confirmed that an Adams County judge's recent order means the city will get the title to the downtown property destroyed by a Sept. 6 fire.
The city spent more than $52,000 to demolish the long-vacant hotel. The city has since decided that it might sell the property. The sale could save the city $500,000 by avoiding the costly removal of the debris that remains after the demolition.
Historic Quincy Business District executive director Travis Brown said he welcomes the cleanup and is excited about the potential for the high-traffic lot.
