A Quincy Notre Dame sophomore wants to share the love with soldiers overseas this Valentine's Day.

Angelica Niemann has made it her mission to educate others on the power of a positive attitude during her time as a Miss Midwest Illinois Teen.

She's planned an event Thursday that all students and staff at Quincy Notre Dame will participate in. It's called, Operation Spreading the Love Across the Seas.

"So many times, it's emphasized on boyfriends and girlfriends and sending flowers and stuff, but really, Valentine's Day should be about loving everybody. So, I believe that we can truly make a difference and make it special for troops across the seas," Niemann said.

The school's 400 students will take time during their English class to write a special message of thanks to their soldiers.

"They sacrifice so much time away from their loved ones, that they deserve a Valentines card, to let them know we appreciate what they do and to show our love for them," Niemann said.

The valentines will be shipped overseas to Afghanistan at the end of the week.
