Quincy Community Theatre spring classes open for registration

Quincy Community Theatre invites students and adults to discover their creative side in a theatre class this spring.

Seven new theatre courses are available this spring for grades K-12 and adults, including two instructed by professional guest artist Chad Tallon.

Tallon is a professional teacher, actor, and director from Chicago. Currently the Drama Teacher at Thomas Metcalf School in Bloomington, IL, Tallon’s professional acting credits include both national tours and regional productions.

All courses are designed to give people of all experience levels a safe space to explore different topics, refine their acting training and technique, enhance their interpersonal and public speaking skills, gain confidence, meet other creative individuals, and try something new.


Unless otherwise noted, QCT’s spring classes are taught by professional teaching artist Kelsey Celek. Courses include:

• GRADES K-2

SING!: Break into the business of telling stories through song and dance with your favorite characters from the movie.

Wed: Feb. 21-Mar. 14, 5:30-6:30 PM

Instructor: Chad Tallon

SECRET LIFE OF PETS: Discover how to use an actor’s greatest tools as we imagine the secret lives of our furry—or scaly—friends.

Sat: Feb. 24-Mar. 17, 10-11 AM


• GRADES 3-5

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA: Join us as we develop our own stories, scenes, and monstrous makeup using our spooky friends as inspiration.

Wed: Feb. 21-Mar. 14, 5:30-6:30 PM

PERCY JACKSON: Become an extraordinary performer as we train alongside the Olympians and create our own legendary adventures.

Sat: Feb. 24-Mar. 17, 11:15 AM-12:15 PM

• GRADES 6-8

SHAKESPERIENCE: The Bard. Billy Shakes. Whatever you call him, this introductory Shakespeare course will give you experience reading, analyzing, and performing Shakespeare’s works.

• GRADES 9-12

COLLEGE AUDITION PREP: Prepare for your next major audition—whether it’s at school, QCT, or for a college acting program. We’ll explore how to find the right material, create an acting resume, and how to present your audition package.

Saturday, Feb. 24, 9 AM-12 PM


• ADULTS (AGES 18+)

SCENE STUDY: Set your next performance apart by exploring the advanced movement techniques every actor should know. High school students may apply to this course with permission from Kelsey Celek.

Thurs: Feb. 22-Mar. 15, 6:45-7:45 PM


The registration deadline for all classes is February 12. Tuition information is available online or at the QCT Box Office. For those who would benefit from financial assistance, scholarships are available.

A volunteer program using volunteer work at the theatre to pay for classes is also available for parents and students ages 10+.
