A Quincy business is celebrating its anniversary by investing in both education and local commerce.
Sturhahn Jewelers donated $2,346 to 23 Quincy schools in honor of its 102nd anniversary of doing business in Quincy.
Members of the Sturhahn family presented each school with a gift certificate to another Quincy business, Illinois School Supply .
Each gift certificate is valued at $102 in honor of the jewelry store's 102nd anniversary. The store has a history of celebrating its anniversaries in unique ways.
In 2011, the store celebrated by giving away 100 gift bags to random and unsuspecting citizens in honor of its 100th anniversary. In 2012, the store celebrated by donating 101 bags of groceries to the Quincy Salvation Army in honor of its 101st anniversary.
"Our community has been so good to us," Sarah Stegeman said. "Four generations of our family have lived and worked here and we're proud to call Quincy our home. We have all received a good education here, so this seemed like a natural thing to do."
