QU Cares Food Drive exceeds goal of 5,000 pounds

Quincy University students surpassed their goal of bringing in 5,000 pounds of food during Sunday's QU Cares Food Drive.

More than 350 incoming freshmen and transfer students began collecting food from area neighborhoods around noon Sunday. By 4 p.m., they'd sorted 5,020 pounds of food into boxes for area food pantries including Quincy Catholic Charities, Quanada, Horizons, and St. John's Lutheran.

Students will continue to collect food from homes they missed on the route through Tuesday. Please call student affairs at 217-228-5432, ext. 3788 if you live within 14th " 30th Streets and Locust " State Streets.

Last year, this food drive raised about 3,500 pounds of food for local food banks.
