QSFA decides to suspend annual Riverfest event

The Quincy Society of Fine Arts has decided to suspend the annual Riverfest Arts Festival.

I t's held every year along the Quincy riverfront and features area acts and artists.

Executive Director Rob Dwyer says the arts society has decided to pursue other avenues to help promote the 65 organizations that are part of the society of fine arts.

Some of the other promotion includes Facebook and Twitter.

He said part of the reason the board voted to suspend Riverfest and step away from the event was the lack of funding from the Illinois Arts Council.

Dwyer said the QSFA got about one third of it's requested funding for its last fiscal year and he felt the QSFA didn't want to take out loans to try and sponsor Riverfest 2012.

"We're going to try and look at ways we could m ore efficiently market the 65 member organizations and individual artists in Adams County. If we would take that time we had been spending on Riverfest and it's my intuition we will be spending it on social media," said Dwyer.

Riverfest was started back in 1986 by the late Joe Bonansigna, Rochelle Busby and Mariann Barnard.
