QHS rifle team gets national attention

The Quincy High School rifle team is getting national attention these days.

Team members placed 3rd in the scholastic division at the Civilian Marksmanship National Championships in Alabama.

The team scored 2300 points out of a possible 2400.

Members of the rifle team include: Keely Wagner, Matt Arnold, Ben Trapini and Susan Leimbach. Bryce Monroe shot as the alternate.

This comes on top of other state and national titles including fourth place at the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, TN; first in state NRA sectionals; second in the state USA Shooting Jr. Olympic Qualifier; second in the Rifle League State Championship and fourth place national ranking with the NRA.

It's important to note, this team was part of the Quincy School District's budget cuts a few years ago.

The coach of the team kept it going by working with no stipend and team fundraising.

Quincy School board members will honor the team at Wednesday night's school board meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the QPS Board Office.
