QFD battles breast cancer with popular shirt sales
The Quincy Fire Department
is once again throwing its support behind a worthy cause.
For the third year in a row the fire department is selling "Firefighters for the Cause" T-shirts to help in the fight against breast cancer.
Proceeds from the sales will go to the
Blessing Cancer Center's financial assistance program
Last year the department gave more than $8,000 to the cause.
Chief Joe Henning says that besides doing its part to fight breast cancer, the T-shirt sales also give both the community and the department a chance to learn more about each other.
"When they come by to get the T-shirts they get a chance to stop by and say hi, maybe see a fire apparatus," Chief Henning said. " Some people will take an impromptu tour and just want to look at a truck. So it's a chance for us to interact and to get people into the fire house. But most importantly we want them to know that we care about the constituents that we serve."
There are about 600 shirts left and they are being sold on a first come first serve basis.
The shirts are on sale now at Central Fire station for $15.
Double X and Triple X sizes do cost a little more.
$11 of each sale goes to the Blessing Breast Center.
A special sale booth will be set up next Tuesday outside the fire station until 7 p.m.
