Police: West Point woman hit biker and then drove off

A West Point woman is behind bars tonight after authorities say she was involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a man in a ditch.

A West Point woman was behind bars Saturday after authorities say she was involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a man in a ditch.

The accident happened Friday night at 8, one mile east of West Point on 400 North.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says Tammy Yates, 49, hit Jason Newberry, 33, as they were both driving west.

Newberry was found lying in a ditch about 20 minutes after the collision.

Yates was not injured and did not report the incident.

She was later arrested at her residence for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and arriving under the influence.

Newberry was transported to Blessing Hospital from the scene by Air Evac.

Yates was lodged in the Hancock County Jail.
