Police warn about computer repair scam

QPD says that a caller tells victims they are from Microsoft or another computer company and says that they have found viruses and problems on the victim's computer.

The Quincy Police Department would like to warn you about a new scam showing up in our area.

QPD says that a caller tells victims they are from Microsoft or another computer company and says that they have found viruses and problems on the victim's computer. They then tell the victims that they want to help fix the computer.

That's when they ask for a credit card or bank information as payment.

Police say that your computer can be remotely accessed with permission and they would have access to everything on your computer including financial and personal information.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up and do not give any information over the phone.

Contact Detective Adams Gibson at 217-592-3604 if you have any questions.
