Police seek fake Fort Madison city inspector

The Fort Madison Police Department is on the lookout for a man walking around area neighborhoods claiming to be a "city inspector."

On multiple occasions in the last two weeks, a white, adult male has falsely identified himself and requested to inspect apartments around Fort Madison.

Police Chief Bruce Niggemeyer encourages residents to confirm the identity of anyone who requests a building inspection or entrance into their residence. You can do so by asking for identification or by contacting City Hall at (319) 372-7700. The city's building inspector, Doug Krogmeier, carries identification and drives a vehicle equipped with emergency lights and a "Fort Madison Fire and Rescue" logo on both sides of the car. Fire Chief Joey Herrin also assists in inspections in a similar vehicle.

If you have any information on this impersonator, please contact Investigator Todd Shields at (319) 372-2525, ext. 276.
