The Macon Police Department responded to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon when a caller reported a male teen carrying a gun and walking toward the area of Macon R-1 School.
According to police, as they were searching the area of the 800 block of Overbrook Drive, one officer saw a subject matching the description carrying a gun into a home.
Police reported that another young man exited the house holding what appeared to be a handgun. That's when they said the officer drew his service weapon for protection and ordered the subject to drop his weapon.
A second officer was nearby and immediately took the weapon away from the subject, police said.
Officers determined the weapons were airsoft/BB guns and not firearms.
The officers spoke with a parent and explained the situation which was resolved without further incident, police said.
According to Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger, the caller reported the situation due to the fact they believed the weapon to be real and did not see any orange or red tip as normally present on airsoft/BB guns.
Deputies of the Macon County Sheriff's Department assisted the Macon Police Department in the incident.
