Police: Macon hit-and-run story not what it seems

A man who friends said last week was the victim of a hit and run was actually run over by his friend's car, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

A man who friends said last week was the victim of a hit and run was actually run over by his friend's car, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

Brandon Eggenberg, 20, of Macon was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.

Destin Green, 21, of Anabel, Mo. initially told investigators that Eggenberg was crossing the highway and was the victim of a hit-and-run crash.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported Monday that Eggenberg was riding on the hood of Green's sport utility vehicle and was struck by the SUV. Green drove his friend to Samaritan Hospital in Macon after the incident.

The incident happened on Kestrel Avenue about a half-mile southeast of Macon near the Macon County Fairgrounds.

The Macon Police Department's investigation into the initial report will continue to determine possible charges.
