      Pike County scam warning

The Pike County Illinois Sheriff's Department and the Pittsfield police department have joined forces to warn area residents about a new type of scam they've dealt with.Residents are getting E-mails that claim that the person has been overpaid on their tax return. The message says that you still owe the IRS and that if you fail to respond you will fined and face penalties. This is a scam.

You may think it is enough to recognize that this is a scam and ignore it, but if you've been targeted you should contact your local law enforcement agency right away.Remember this bit of advice from the Pike County Sheriff's department, "If you won, you had to enter ... if you owe, they will come."
