Photos released in effort to identify body found in Mississippi

      Photos could help identify body

In a special press conference Thursday, Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn released photos of clothing and a ring belonging to a woman who's body was found in the Mississippi River.

Shinn also says that the woman was between 15 and 30-years-old and approximately 5-foot-3-inches tall, weighing 135 lbs. She wore JC Penney jeans in size 13/14.

These new details were released in an effort to identify the unknown female.

The woman's body was discovered in the Mississippi River at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, September 15 near Sawyer's Creek.

The death is considered a homicide and a Major Case Squad of investigators from throughout the area met Thursday at the Marion County Sheriff's office to discuss the case.

Authorities don't know the woman's race and Sheriff Shinn says that no one has come forward about a local missing person.

It could still take several weeks until we learn further details and Shinn says that her DNA has been entered into databases across the country.

Shinn said he doesn't expect to receive autopsy results for four to six weeks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the MSP at 660-385-2132 or the Marion County Sheriff's Department at 573-769-2077.
