A Macomb downtown food fixture has been brought back to life by its original owners.
Don and Charlotte Knox reopened the former Pagliai's Pizza in Macomb recently under a new name: Pag's Pizza & Pasta.
The Knox's first opened the restaurant back in 1964. It's been running for five decades, under various owners until it went out of business last year.
That's when Don Knox came out of retirement to twirl his famous pizza pies for customers decades.
Knox said, "We had so many requests to re-open we caved in."
Despite a slight name change, the original menu items and recipes for the pizza are the same as when Pagliai's Pizza first opened in 1964. And the recipes are unique.
Knox said, "My grandmother taught me how to make the sausage and I do it the same way."
Other Pagliai family recipes include the pizza sauce, delicious spaghetti sauce and pizza dough recipes...passed on through the generations to your table.
And it's been like a big family gathering around the tables here at Pag's Pizza. Former customers are always coming in to taste a slice of their past. Some of them first tasting Pagliai's Pizza in junior high school...and now bringing their great grandchildren in for a treat.
